Head of ‘Awakening’ advocates use of torture in investigating terror suspects

Al-Sahwa (“Awakening”) leader Ahmad Abu Risha, who battled elements of Al-Qaeda in Iraq’s Al-Anbar Province and expelled them from the province, expressed his view that torture should be used in investigating elements accused of terrorism.

He warned that Al-Qaeda plans to raid banks and jewelry stores to finance its operations.

Abu Risha added that Al-Qaeda members have practiced the worst forms of violence, including beheading their victims. It was essential, he said, that they should be treated in a manner that would restore “the deterrence and the fear” of the authorities.
